The Paris Principles
Our work complies with a set of guidelines called the Paris Principles.
These were adopted by the UN General Assembly and set out specific requirements that an “A Status” National Human Rights Institution must fulfil.
In 2023, we published a briefing that was sent to MSPs to mark the 30th anniversary of the Paris Principle.

These were adopted by the UN General Assembly and set out specific requirements that an “A Status” National Human Rights Institution must fulfil. In 2023, we published a briefing that was sent to MSPs to mark the 30th anniversary of the Paris Principle.
Rights Council, recognising the universal human right to a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable... and Indigenous Peoples.
A resolution was also adopted on the creation of a Special Rapporteur on human rights... expressly in their constitutions, national and/or regional law.
Scotland will incorporate the right into Scots law when the UNCRC Bill is given Royal Assent.
The right to a healthy environment will also be included in a new human rights bill, which the Scottish Government will consult on as part
to human rights.
