The Scottish Human Rights Commission has responded to today’s Queen’s Speech announcement..., Professor Alan Miller, said:
“The Commission has long been clear that any changes to our human rights... enabling the UK to pick and choose which judgments to accept from the European Court of Human Rights, reducing the scope of human rights laws so that they only apply to “the most serious” cases... or citizenship. Any and all of these changes would fly in the face of progressive protection for human
Scotland's place in the international human rights community.
In a speech at Tsinghua University... the Universal Periodic Review, and it’s run by the United Nations’ Human Rights Council.
"It means... that we’re all on the same journey towards developing human rights; all of us can learn from each... in the international dialogue on human rights, and to promote the rights of our citizens and the wellbeing of our society.

The Scottish Human Rights Commission welcomes the review of the Mental Health Act announced today in the Scottish Parliament.
Judith Robertson, Chair of the Commission, said:
"People's rights... as an important opportunity to ensure that any new mental health legislation contains the right safeguards... Disability Convention and the European Convention on Human Rights. Importantly, it will also consider the role of incapacity legislation which presents similar challenges in realising people's human rights."
