We all have the right to an adequate standard of living.  The Scottish Government, Parliament and public authorities have a duty to respect, protect and fulfil this right.

When duty bearers fail to meet their obligations, it can trap people in poverty and make human rights harder to reach. People living in poverty often experience barriers to accessing the rights that we need in our daily lives, including housing, food, healthcare and education.

Our monitoring work tells us that too many people in Scotland do not have safe and warm homes, cannot afford food and other basic essentials, or struggling to make ends meet.

Poverty is a human rights issue. It requires human rights based solutions.

This project will examine poverty in Scotland through the lens of human rights. We are working on several reports which look at specific issues and how the State can address them, including:

• A policy statement on the human rights framework for poverty
• A rights review on rooflessness
• A rights review on food
• A toolkit on human rights based budgeting as a tool for alleviating poverty
