If you’re working to improve life for people and communities in Scotland, come and learn more about how you can use the international human rights framework to strengthen your campaigns.

Housing, freedom from discrimination, privacy and family life: these, and more, are human rights protected by international law.

The Scottish Human Rights Commission (SHRC) is Scotland’s Human Rights Watchdog, also known as a National Human Rights Institution. We promote and protect human rights in Scotland and support international human rights monitoring.

Between September and November we’re hosting a series of webinars and a workshop to help people in Scotland and Civil Society learn more about the international human rights framework, and discuss how to use it effectively to protect rights in Scotland.

Join us to find out how you can use human rights to demand action in Scotland and in your local communities.

Part of our responsibilities includes supporting the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Bodies that monitor and hold states accountable for their efforts to protect human rights. Each of the UN Human Rights Treaties is overseen by a treaty body of global human rights experts who periodically review Government actions and issue recommendations for how human rights can be better protected.

These human rights treaty reviews are a vital way we can hold the Scottish and UK Governments accountable for their records. At the end of the process, each Committee makes recommendations that highlight what needs to change to ensure human rights are strengthened.

Between 2024 and 2024, the Commission has supported four UN Treaty Bodies to review the UK’s record. Each webinar is an opportunity to find out more the specific treaty, the work of the SHRC and hear from experts on what the review means for their communities.
