The Scottish Human Rights Commission has written to the Justice Committee at the Scottish Parliament to highlight concerns about measures being taken in prisons during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Commission has expressed concern that the current conditions being experienced by some people in Scottish prisons could amount to inhuman and degrading treatment, in breach of Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

The Scottish Human Rights Commission is strongly opposed to the deeply regressive provisions in the UK Government’s “Bill of Rights”, intended to replace the Human Rights Act, laid before the UK Parliament today.
The Commission is clear in its view that the Human Rights Act works well as it stands, an opinion shared by others across UK and Scottish human rights organisations, the UK Joint Committee on Human Rights, civil society and the UK Government’s own Independent Human Rights Act Review
