In Scotland, our human rights are protected by international and domestic law. These laws should help to prevent breaches of our rights and provide us with routes... rights denials and facing barriers that prevent them from accessing justice.
The journey to access justice for human rights breaches can be long, complicated, and expensive, requiring rights holders to have:
knowledge about where to turn for help or how to complain
money for and access to specialist
The Scottish Human Rights Commission has published its submission to the United Nation's Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights for the sixth periodic report of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The Commission has submitted a report to the United Nations Human Rights Committee on the United Kingdom’s 7th periodic report under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
A joint statement on behalf of the UK's "A Status" NHRIs regarding the human rights of persons with mental health issues detained by the state, has been delivered at the 28th Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
