The Scottish Human Rights Commission has been unanimously re-elected to the role of Chair of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) for a further three years.
The European Network co-ordinates work by 40 NHRIs across the Council of Europe region and is one of four regional networks within the International Co-ordinating Committee (ICC) of NHRIs.
The appointment as Chair was made in Geneva earlier this month and follows SHRC serving two years in the post to date
Ultimately, we hope this report contributes to the improvement of economic, social, and cultural rights in the Highlands and Islands, ensuring that no one in Scotland is left behind.
Returning to the Highlands and Islands
A critical next step for us was to bring the lessons learned from this project back to the communities affected. Between February and March 2025, we travelled back to the Highlands and Islands to share the findings of this report and hold sessions on ESC rights framework
