Our current Chair, Judith Robertson, comes to the end of her term in March 2022. The Scottish Parliament is now recruiting for her successor.
The Chair is a full time role, appointed by a cross-party Selection Panel of MSP . The Commission does not have any direct involvement.
Candidates should have a track record of:
promoting human rights
leading an organisation
implementing good governance
influencing senior stakeholders

Our State of the Nation reports aim to support the Scottish Parliament and other public bodies to understand and meet their obligations under human rights law. At the national level, monitoring is essential to progress recommendations, decisions and judgments from accountability bodies that need to be addressed by the Scottish Government, Parliament and other public sector bodies.
We hope that these reports will also be useful to civil society, human rights defenders and rights holders
A briefing sent to Members of the Scottish Parliament ahead of a debate to mark Human Rights Day on 10 December and the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The briefing sets out the Commission's work, as Scotland's National Human Rights Institution, to promote and protect human rights in Scotland in accordance with the Paris Principles.
The Commission has submitted its views to the Scottish Parliament's Finance and Constitution Committee's Inquiry on the Impact of COVID-19 on public finances and the Fiscal Framework. The submission highlights the importance of human rights based budgeting to guide economic recovery and financial decision-making.
