The Commission has made a statement in response to the United Nations HumanRights Committee’s Seventh Periodic Review of the UK’s implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
Many humanrights are affected by the justice system including the right to a fair trial, the right to an effective remedy, the rights of victims and witnesses in legal proceedings, access to legal advice and legal aid. Access to justice is also an important humanrights issue, particularly for disabled people, victims of domestic abuse and violence, asylum seekers and people with mental health problems.
An analysis of the Scottish budget for 2025-26 through a humanrights lens, to inform MSPs, other decision-makers and interested parties as they undertake final scrutiny of the budget.
