The Scottish HumanRights Commission has launched a new short animation today on the right to social security. The 3 minute animation explains what the right to social security means in practice, how it’s protected in international law and how it helps realise a range of other rights.
The animation is intended to be a useful resource for people and organisations seeking to improve Scotland’s social security system in various ways.

The Scottish HumanRights Commission supports and works with a Reference Group of people with lived experience of poverty from across Scotland. The group are experts in poverty and in rights based approaches to tackling poverty.

for the protection of humanrights in public services. The Commission notes the Court of Session’s interpretation of case law on the application of the HumanRights Act in the context of contracted out services... in practice, the state (including Scottish public bodies) should make humanrights obligations... as an intervener in the permission to appeal which we believe raises important issues about the protection of humanrights where services are delivered by private contractors.
