Members of the Scottish Parliament will discuss the Regulation of Care for Older People in a debate tomorrow (Wednesday 7 March).
The Scottish HumanRights Commission welcomes the debate in the Scottish Parliament, and has sent a briefing note to all MSPs highlighting key humanrights considerations ahead of the debate.

The Scottish HumanRights Commission has today welcomed the publication of the Children (Equal Protection from Assault) (Scotland) Bill, a Members Bill which would remove the defence of 'justifiable assault' in relation to physical punishment of children.
Judith Robertson, Chair of the Commission, said:
"This Bill is a welcome opportunity to make progress on this important humanrights issue for children in Scotland. The Commission has been reporting this to the United Nations for many years

Today Professor Alan Miller, Chair of the Scottish HumanRights Commission, gave evidence... of international humanrights treaties. Such treaties include such economic and social rights as the “right... of the UK to incorporate such universally recognised humanrights treaties into domestic law.
He expressed... breach the right to private, family and home life protected by the HumanRights Act. He added that some... or degrading treatment prohibited by the HumanRights Act.
Professor Miller outlined some of the consequent
plan for the Council.
Professor Angela O’Hagan, Chair of the Scottish HumanRights Commission, says:
“Cultural life for Scotland’s Gypsy Traveller community is a human right and is protected in international humanrights law.
“Access to appropriate housing without discrimination is protected by several international humanrights treaties to which the UK is a party, for example, the United Nations....
The Scottish HumanRights Commission is therefore concerned by the findings of the Scottish Housing
