The UK's National Preventive Mechanism (NPM), established under the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (OPCAT), has published its 2015-16 Annual Report. The Commission is one of 20 members of the NPM, which has a remit to:
regularly examine the treatment of persons deprived of their liberty in all places of detention under the UK’s jurisdiction and control;
make recommendations to relevant authorities with the aim
Today the Scottish Human Rights Commission and the Equality and Human Rights Commission launched a new website and training resource at the Grassmarket Community Project in Edinburgh.
The resource was developed with the recognition that some public authorities are choosing to address both the equality and human rights implications of proposed, new or revised policies or practices when they assess impact.
