He is also a former UK ambassador and led the UK team at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva from 2011 to 2016, working closely with civil society, governments and national human rights institutions.

The Scottish Human Rights Commission has achieved the top grade of international accreditation as a National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) for the third time.
This awarded “A Status” from the Global Alliance of NHRIs and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights... human rights. The Commission is one of over 100 National Human Rights Institutions around the globe.
The decision was made by a Committee of National Human Rights Institutions from around the world
