In the UK, human rights are protected by international human rights treaties - such as the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights - and in domestic law - such as the Human Rights Act 1998.
However, some groups of people face more barriers to having their rights met than..., additional human rights treaties have been created to address these barriers. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) protects the human rights of disabled people.
Scotland is signed up to many international human rights obligations, set out in laws, treaties and conventions, as part of the United Kingdom. As an accredited ‘A Status’ national human rights institution, the Commission helps to monitor the impact of international human rights treaties... speaking rights at the UN Human Rights Council, which is responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe.
The Scottish Human Rights Commission warmly welcomes Ian Duddy, who takes up his new appointment...; Development Office, where he led the Human Rights & Rule of Law Department, working on a variety... and the European Court of Human Rights.
He is also a former UK ambassador and led the UK team at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva from 2011 to 2016, working closely with civil society, governments and national human rights institutions.
