Our focus area for 2026 is the South of Scotland. In February and March 2026, we visited the South of Scotland, including Ayrshire, Cumbrae, and Arran to hear first-hand from humanrights defenders on the ground about the issues facing their communities in Stranraer, Ayr, Dumfries, Kilmarnock, Hamilton, Irvine, Arran, Galashiels, Kelso, Dalkeith and Haddington.

Part 2 of the Easy Read version of the United Kingdom Independent Mechanism (UKIM) joint submission to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; to support a follow-up review of its 2016 inquiry into the UK. It provides a summary of developments related to the rights of disabled people in the UK from 2016 to the time of submission, in relation to the inquiry topics.
In May 2009 the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights considered the progress made by the UK in realising the humanrights protected by the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
A briefing to mark HumanRights Day on 10 December and the 30th anniversary of the Paris Principles being endorsed by the United Nations (UN). The Principles set out the standards for independent, effective and robust NationalHumanRights Institutions (NHRIs). As Scotland’s NHRI, the Scottish HumanRights Commission works to make these systems effective and meaningful in Scotland.
