A Human Rights Based Approach to Health
The Commission works with others to help put human rights at the heart of health and social care services in Scotland.
From 2013 to 2018, we played an active role in the Health and Social Care Action Group, convened through Scotland’s National Action Plan for Human Rights.
As part of this, we worked with NHS Health Scotland and the Health and Social Care Alliance to produce a series of case studies illustrating human rights in practice in health
Civil and political rights
The Commission's first annual State of the Nation report to the Scottish Parliament was published on Human Rights Day – 10th December – 2024 and focuses on civil and political rights. The report covers the period from September 2023 to September 2024, following... rights, the rights that protect people from harms by the state and rights to participate in decisions... in places of detention, and emerging evidence that Scotland is not meeting human rights standards
