Joint Committee on Human Rights (JCHR): the Equality Bill

On 4 June 2009 the Joint Committee on Human Rights (JCHR) issued a call for evidence on the human rights compatibility of the Equality Bill, which was published by the UK Government on 27 April 2009. The Commission submitted evidence including a consideration of the place of human rights and equality in UK law, the relation of the Equality Bill and the Human Rights Act, and responses to several of the questions which JCHR asked the Solicitor General on the compatibility of specific provisions of the Bill with international human rights law.

Joint Committee on Human Rights (JCHR): Business and Human Rights

On 6 March 2009 the Joint Committee on Human Rights (JCHR) decided to inquire into business and human rights. The inquiry examined the way in which businesses can affect human rights both positively and negatively; how business activities engage the relative responsibilities of the UK Government and individual businesses; and whether the existing UK regulatory, legal and voluntary framework provides adequate guidance and clarity to business as well as adequate protection to individual rights. The Commission submitted evidence to that inquiry:
