Issue 50 August 2010 - Introduction from the Editor - 50th Issue

Welcome to the 50th Issue of the Journal. It is appropriate to mark this mile stone with the inclusion of a seminal article on what is arguably the most compelling and strategic human rights issue facing all of us. The challenge of climate change is not only one for the future and for future generations but is an urgent responsibility for us all today. I am indebted to Diego Quiroz, Policy Officer at the Scottish Human Rights Commission, for his intellectually rigorous and powerful practical call for the application of a human rights-based approach in addressing climate change. It is my hope that this article will stimulate discussion and I look forward to receiving your responses.

As ever I am also indebted to Scott Blair for his continued excellent coverage of significant case law developments. It is instructive to us all that almost 10 years after the introduction of the Human Rights Act we are still witnessing the impact of Articles 6 and 8 in key parts of our legal system. I have no doubt that this is set to continue over the next 10 years and beyond and hope that the Journal continues to play a role in raising awareness of the ever expanding scope of human rights. This will be true in relation not only to the application of the ECHR but also increasingly of the whole framework of international human rights law, in to which Diego’s article provides an insight.
