3rd International Jacques Leroy Prize
For the 3rd edition, the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA - International Association of Lawyers) invites all law students to write an entry for the Jacques Leroy International Prize – Business and Human Rights.
The 2012 topic is “The Jurist and the Development of Human Rights in the Busines World”
Entries must reach the UIA by letter or email by June 30, 2012 at the latest.
The purpose of the Jacques Leroy Prize is to reward a law student who, in writing a dissertation, study or any other research paper, helps raise awareness of human rights in the business world, and thus offers possible solutions to rationalize the societal responsibility of companies from a legal standpoint.
Candidates must send the UIA a file containing the following information:
- their written entry, which must be between 15,000 and 20,000 characters long;
- a summary presentation of the entry in 2,000 characters;
- a curriculum vitae;
- a letter introducing the candidate written by one of the candidate’s University law professors;
- proof of being enrolled at their University (photocopy of a valid student card or a certificate issued by the University).
These documents may be written in English, French or Spanish.

Who can enter the competition?
All law students under 30 who are enrolled in a university or law school.
What should be submitted to the competition?
A written document (15,000 – 20,000 characters) in the form of a trial argument, dissertation, study or commentary on a practical case.
On which subject?
The 2012 topic is “The Jurist and the Development of Human Rights in the Busines World”
What does the winner receive?
- A cash prize of € 1,000.
- Free registration at the UIA Congress in Dresden from October 31 to November 4, 2012.
- Transportation and accomodation in Dresden from October 31 to November 4, 2012.
- A year’s free membership of the UIA for the calendar year following the award of the prize.
