Shelagh McCall is aqualified lawyer and a graduate of the Universities of Edinburgh (Bachelor of Laws) and Strathclyde (Master of Laws). She began her career practising as a criminal defence solicitor in East Lothian before being called to the Scottish Bar in 2000. In January 2006 Shelagh joined the United Nations as a prosecution appeals counsel at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, where she handled appeals in cases of crimes against humanity and war crimes. On taking up her appointment with the Commission, she returned to Scotland. In 2009 Shelagh was appointed as a part-time Sheriff by Scottish Ministers. Shelagh has been a legal member of the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland since 2013.
